Summary

WINgS is an electronic device for capturing and transmitting body part movements, using an inertial sensor and Bluetooth. It aims to be integrated with assistive technologies developed in our laboratory. For example, it is integrated into a game for rehabilitation of post-stroke patients, using a bracelet, capturing arm movements, and a wheelchair, allowing quadriplegics to control it by flexing their neck.

SpES - Spasticity Evaluation System

Summary

This project deals with the development of a portable device that quantifies spasticity through the LRET method. This device allows therapists to objectively and reliably quantify spasticity. In this system is included an electromyograph to capture electromyographic signals on the surface of the muscle, an electrogoniometer, developed with plastic optical fiber for joint angle measurement and software for visualization and data processing in real time.

Trata-se de um sistema capaz de monitorar variáveis físico-químicas de uma autoclave à vapor com o intuito de antever falhas e problemas, caracterizando-se como um equipamento essencial para utilização em manutenções preditivas (MPd) hospitalares, evitando falhas potenciais nesse tipo de equipamento.

Summary

The individual\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s attention / non-attention behavior is the main unconscious manifestation that determines the aspect of their attitudes, with consequent changes in their brain activity, which can be perceived by the brain signal (EEG). This project seeks to evaluate systems involving intentional analysis and EEG in order to treat information on changes in engagement as a predictive factor for success or error in actions for alternative communication.

View-EMG: a simulator for training of the driving of motorized wheelchairs through neuromuscular commands

Summary

This project proposes the development of the ViEW-EMG system, a simulator for training driving skills of motorized wheelchairs driven by electromyographic signals captured on the surface of the muscles (sEMG). Such a system will be an alternative for users unable to drive motorized wheelchairs through traditional joysticks to do their training in a virtual environment with complete safety. This project is funded by FAPEMIG (Foundation for Research Support of the State of Minas Gerais).

Universal device for joystick actuation of motorized wheelchairs

Summary

An electromechanical/robotic system to actuate a joystick from an Electric Power Wheelchair (EPW) using alternative commands and mouse emulation applied to an interface/screen that have the directions and push buttons of the aforementioned joystick. The system allows a quick and easy adaptation of a conventional EPW to alternative commands, which can be of several different types like lip movement, head tracking, eye tracking, muscular commands, or any other that can be used to move a mouse cursor in two dimensions.

Title

Design of an Augmented Reality-based telerehabilitation architecture for supporting the training of powered wheelchair users

Summary

The objective of this work is to investigate the use of Augmented Reality techniques in Telerehabilitation, applied to the training of users of motorized wheelchairs. In this scenario, using a computer with unconventional devices, the user is connected to an increased remote training space (contains real and virtual objects) and can issue commands in order to perform the training exercises proposed by the therapist, based on the Power Mobility Route Test. The Telerehabilitation environment should replicate the major challenges faced by wheelchair users in their daily activities.

Title

Multimodal system for distance learning in a virtual environment or augmented reality for users of motorized wheelchairs

Summary

This project combines efforts of researchers of three institutions: Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), also with the collaboration of researchers from the University of Lorraine (France). The goal is to implement a simulator that allows to drive remotely an intelligent wheelchair prototype, offering in this way a totally safe training environment for wheelchairs users. This project is funded by Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel from the Ministry of Education in Brazil - CAPES/MEC.

Proposal of a virtual training tool for driving a motorized wheelchair

Summary

This ongoing study intends to explore and ascertain the effectiveness of using the proposal of a virtual simulator for users of motorized wheelchairs, considering the hypothesis of presenting new tools for the therapeutic process. The training system can be used for potential users to develop their wheelchair driving skills in a completely safe environment, and can then transfer this acquired knowledge to a real context.

Title

Motorized wheelchair control system through eye tracking using mobile devices

Summary

Due to the high rates of people with disabilities in Brazil, the demand for Assistive Technologies (AT) has increased considerably. In this sense, the objective of this study is to develop a multiplatform application for mobile devices capable of controlling a motorized wheelchair. With this system the user will be able to control the wheelchair through eye tracking. The application has as a function to capture which of the directional markers present on the screen of the mobile device that the user is looking at and send a command for the chair to move. The tracking is done using the device\\\'s own camera combined with computer vision techniques.

Summary

           Este projeto apresenta a possibilidade de uso de Realidade Virtual para treinamento de uso de cadeira de rodas motorizada, junto a serviços de concessão do equipamento vinculado ao Sistema Único de Saúde.  Desenvolvido e aplicado um protocolo para treinamento da CRM real e em ambientes virtuais. Este estudo foi desenvolvido em parceria com Núcleo de Tecnologia Assistiva da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia e a Associação de Assistência à Criança Deficiente (AACD Uberlândia) onde a pesquisadora está inserida a frente dos serviços de dispensação e treinamento.
